The Auburn Tigers basketball coaching staff continues to make moves in the NCAA Transfer Portal as head coach Steven Pearl works to create his second-year roster. The transfer portal officially closed at midnight on Tuesday, April 21.
The latest news arrived on Wednesday morning, when former Vanderbilt guard George Kimble III announced his commitment to the Tigers just one day after Sebastian Williams-Adams committed to the Commodores in a last-minute switch-up.
Kimble is the first guard to join up with the Tigers from the transfer portal. He began his career at Eckerd College (JUCO) in Florida, then moved on to Eastern Kentucky and later transferred to Vanderbilt. He missed all of last season due to injury, but in the 2024-25 season with Eastern Kentucky, he averaged 18 points per game.
With Tahaad Pettiford and Kevin Overton returning, Kimble will likely serve as a backup at the guard position alongside Simon Walker, another returner.
Just before the portal closed last night, 7-foot center Emeka Opurum, who played in just six games for the Tigers, elected to enter the transfer portal. The big man was ruled out for the season in December with an undisclosed medical condition that Pearl declined to comment on for the sake of Opurum's privacy.
Opurum spent time in the NBA Africa program before making the move to Butler Community College in Kansas. Opurum's decision to transfer isn't a massive surprise with the Tigers' recent transfer portal acquisitions of two 7-footers Bukky Oboye and Narcisse Ngoye, alongside Owen Freeman at 6-foot-10.
