Two former Auburn football players to be Gus Malzahn grad assistants
Former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn continues to show his Auburn connections as he adds two former players to his staff as graduate assistants. Tre’ Williams and Kam Martin will join Malzahn in Orlando to work with the UCF Knights football team.
Tre’ Williams’ position with the Knights was announced two days ago by the UCF defensive coordinator Travis Williams, who previously coached the linebackers for the Tigers. Tre’ Williams played under Travis Williams on the Plains from 2014-2017.
In Tre’ Williams’ four seasons at Auburn, he racked up 188 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. His senior year he served as an Auburn football team captain and made second-team All-SEC. He spent the last year at Thompson High School in Alabama coaching freshman linebackers and working with the varsity football team.
The second former Auburn Tiger to join up with Gus Malzahn is Kam Martin, who played running back at Auburn from 2016-2019. Martin rushed for 1,564 yards and eight touchdowns over his four seasons on the Plains, as well as recording 18 career receptions for 193 yards and one touchdown.
The two mark the latest Gus Malzahn staffers with Auburn connections. Former Auburn assistants Travis Williams and Herb Hand will lead the defense and offensive line, respectively. According to AL.com, one-time Auburn analysts Brian Blackmon will coach the tight ends and special teams, and Addison Williams to cover the cornerbacks.
The Tigers’ former director of player relations also remains under Gus Malzahn as a defensive assistant for the Knights. Although Malzahn is no longer an Auburn tiger, his ties to the Plains are evident in his hirings for the UCF gig.
