The race to build the roster of 2022 is on among collegiate programs, and Auburn football is no different. Today Bryan Harsin and the Tigers extended a scholarship offer to class of 2022 three-star wide receiver Marquarius White.

Hailing from Pinson, AL, Bryan Harsin is working hard to keep the talent in the state, but so is Alabama. The Tigers were late to join White’s offer party, as the wide receiver named his top ten schools in early April, before his Auburn offer.

It’s largely a fight among SEC schools to get the No. 23 recruit out of the state of Alabama, including the likes of Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Tennessee, and of course rival Alabama. Since announcing a top ten list, White has received offers from Georgia and Army in addition to Auburn.

White made his Twitter announcement using the same style of font as former Auburn football quarterback Cam Newton frequently uses on social media and also used a picture of NFL Draft-bound Anthony Schwartz.

The wider receiver is known for his speed, much like Schwartz, and also runs track at Clay-Chalkville High School. He can cover 100 meters in just 10.96 seconds, according to 247 Sports, perhaps the reason his nickname “Squirrel” has stuck. In his junior season, White recorded 44 catches for 877 yards and 13 touchdowns.

After a mostly mediocre performance from Auburn’s wide receivers at the spring A-Day game, it would be nice to get some added depth to the position in preparation for the next few years when the current receivers begin to age out of the program. It will be critical for Harsin to add receiving threats for the final stretch of quarterback Bo Nix’s career as well as incoming QB Dematrius Davis and 2022 QB signee Holden Geriner.
