In the two full days (and counting) since college football began the post-NIL era–where players can cash in on their names, image, and likeness to earn endorsement dollars–Auburn football has been at the forefront of the race for sponsors.

Bo Nix took no time to announce that he was the Plains’ representative of Alabama chain Milo’s Sweet Tea, sending Alabama fans into a panic to pour the product down the drain. They’ve since had to walk back their boycotts with Milo’s endorsement of Crimson Tide cornerback Malachi Moore.

Elsewhere, TJ Finley has inked a deal of his own with PSD Underwear, several players have joined the Locked On Auburn podcast, and Tank Bigsby has even unveiled his own logo.

With all of the talk about players making money off of their own brand, from brands, freshman QB Dematrius Davis took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the current post-NIL college football landscape:

Simply put, Davis doesn’t want to see players get too distracted from all of the potential business deals they can strike outside the game that they can’t focus on the game that brought them said business in the first place.

At least he has that mindset for himself. With the Texas product focused on his craft, a jump up the depth chart is squarely in his sights. While TJ Finley was brought on board to compete with Bo Nix for the QB1 role, Davis provides legitimate competition for the primary backup spot even as a freshman.

Of course, Davis’ lack of SEC experience should be what ultimately precludes him from starting in 2021 (barring something catastrophic), but if Davis continues to live by his own motto, his hard work can one day pay dividends.

Fly War Eagle thinks it’s only a matter of time for the Class of 2021 Auburn football dual-threat QB.
