In today's edition of Auburn Tigers news, the Auburn baseball team improved to a 5-0 record, and Auburn basketball got a road win over Georgia
After getting wins in their first four contests at home, the Auburn baseball team hit the road to take on No. 18 Iowa in the Jax College Baseball Classic at 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, Florida. The Tigers battled through the first several innings and began to rally in the seventh, solidifying a 7-5 comback win.
Butch Thompson credits the bullpen for the Tigers' sustained success after the bats heated up towards the end of the game, per Auburn Rivals:
"The three relievers that came into the ballgame tonight did not walk a batter,” AU coach Butch Thompson told the Auburn Network. “They were good. All three shoved the ball in the strike zone and I think that’s how we got to the finish line once our offense cranked up.”
The Tigers went on to run rule Wichita State later that day, earning a season-high 19 runs in just seven innings. They will finish up the Jax Classic with the final matchup against Virginia this afternoon.
Auburn basketball takes down the Dawgs
The Auburn basketball team had a midweek breather after their tough loss to Kentucky last weekend before heading to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Between The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry and KD Johnson being a Georgia transfer, it's a matchup that always feels personal.
With Auburn fans taking over the crowd, the Tigers put on a show despite missing Jaylin Williams due to injury. Transfers Chad Baker-Mazara and Chaney Johnson were moved to the starting lineup and stepped up when the Tigers needed it most. CBM led in scoring with 25 points, a career-high, and both Chaney Johnson and Johni Broome scored 16.
It was an encouraging win for Auburn basketball, with the most made threes (14) all season and glimmers of the potential of Aden Holloway before he hit a slump in SEC play.
The Tigers will be back in action this Wednesday as they take on the Tennessee Volunteers from Knoxville.
