Auburn Tigers News: Bruce Pearl on addition of JP Pegues, 5-star QB Julian Lewis on Auburn football
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl speaks on the recent addition of guard JP Pegues, and 5-star quarterback Julian Lewis gives his opinion on Auburn football
This past weekend, the Auburn basketball program picked up a major player through the transfer portal. Former Furman guard JP Pegues committed to the Tigers on Friday after three seasons with the Paladins, and this past season he averaged 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
“JP is a winner,” Pearl said, per AL.com. “He is a scoring point guard that has great ability to shoot the basketball. He can score at all three levels, defend and lead. Talking to several great coaches in the SoCon, they unanimously believed he was the best player in their league this season.”
Pearl went on to mention several other Auburn basketball players who have had success after transferring to the Plains from a mid-major program like Wendell Green Jr., Denver Jones, Johni Broome, and others. He noted that Pegues is a great first step in rebuilding the roster ahead of the 2024-25 season.
5-star quarterback Julian Lewis gives his opinion on Auburn football
After missing out on 5-star quarterback Husan Longstreet, who committed this weekend to the Texas A&M Aggies, Auburn football's coaching staff will be switching their focus to 5-star QB Julian Lewis, who is currently committed to USC but publicly exploring all his options.
From Carrollton, GA, Lewis has locked in an official visit with the Tigers later this summer, and will officially visit USC, Georgia, Colorado, and Alabama. For Lewis, the most important factor in his decision is making sure he feels comfortable at the school he picks. When asked about Auburn football, he had the following to say, per Auburn Wire.
“Coach [Hugh] Freeze is a great guy, they’re godly people and that’s always good for my family and me to hear,” Lewis said in an interview with On3. “They’ve got some crazy freshmen in right now like Cam Coleman and all those guys coming up. So getting to play with people like that my first couple years would be nice.”
