Auburn Tigers News: Golf playing for NCAA title, John Cohen on alternate uniforms
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, Auburn men's golf is headed to the national championship, and AD John Cohen talks about alternate uniforms with Nike
It took everything they had on Tuesday, but the Auburn men's golf team battled it out with Virginia and Ohio State to earn a trip to the NCAA Championship this afternoon. All eyes were on freshman Jackson Koivun, who was the No. 1 recruit in his class and who won the Fred Haskins Award earlier this year.
Koivun sent his final match to extra holes but came up victorious on his 21st and final hole with a birdie to punch the Tigers' ticket to the championship round against Florida State.
"We've had a great year, but it's unfinished," coach Nick Clinard said, per Auburn Undercover. "The job's not finished. We're going up against a great Florida State team coached by Tray Jones. It's going to be an all-our battle tomorrow to have a chance to win."
Coverage of the NCAA men's golf championship begins at 5 p.m. central time on the Golf channel.

For the past several years, the Auburn football fanbase has been divided when it comes to uniforms. The Tigers' football uniforms are steeped in tradition, the classic blue home jerseys and the storm trooper all-whites for away games. While some fans prefer to honor tradition, others have been begging for alternate uniforms, especially orange jerseys.
The idea of wearing orange jerseys was heavily teased during the Bryan Harsin era, probably to get fans to talk about something other than how much they hated the head coach. Obviously the orange never happened, but they did their best to get fans excited for it anyway.
Now, with a new football coaching staff, a new athletics director, and — starting next summer — a new apparel deal, could alternate uniforms turn into a real thing for the Tigers? Athletics Director John Cohen gave a vague answer, per The Montgomery Advertiser.
"We're always considering everything," athletics director John Cohen said Tuesday at SEC Spring Meetings when asked about the potential for alternate uniforms. "But we also want to pay homage to the great tradition of our sports, especially football. We have an iconic uniform, and we need to make sure that, again, we pay homage to that."
