SEC football news roundup: Lane Kiffin promises a title as LSU lands 4-star RB and 5-star EDGE

Lane Kiffin guaranteed a championship for LSU during his tenure. I believe him the way the Tigers are recruiting.

Several historical SEC franchises landed blue-chip prospects on the recruiting trail on Wednesday. Any program not coached by Lane Kiffin took a backseat, though. The LSU Tigers made a major statement on the trail, both with recruits and Kiffin's declarations.

The Bayou Bengals were the biggest story across college football on hump day, but other programs got in on the action in what was a busy day in the "It Just Means More" conference for the headline side.

Here's what happened across the SEC yesterday in yet another day of talent-acquisition dominance in the Pelican State:

LSU continues recruiting tear with another blue-chip RB and 5-star EDGE

Monday saw LSU land 4-star Lansdale Catholic IOL Terrance Smith. Tuesday saw the Tigers nab 4-star Byrnes (SC) RB Tre Segarra's commitment. Wednesday saw more of the same. LSU kept 4-star Winnsboro RB Trey Martin in-state and added 5-star LC Bird (VA) EDGE Chris Whitehead. It took a bit, but Kiffin is going all in to show he's here to win titles.

He showed and told the world that he's going all in. Kiffin promised a championship at some point during his upcoming coaching run in Baton Rouge.

"I don’t know how fast it’s going to happen, but we’re going to win a national championship. We’re going to have the teams and the rosters back to the way they were playing when they were great. I don’t know how fast. It might not be today, but it’s going to happen," Kiffin said on the "In The Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu" podcast.

It's hard not to believe Kiffin, given the recruiting tear he's been on. For good measure, LC Bird offensive tackle Isaiah Whitehead, Chris's brother, committed for the 2028 class. It has been a week to remember for the Tigers, who have laid the groundwork for long-term success with their work on the trail in the past few days.

Texas keeps 4-star Dallas-area OL in the Lone Star State

The Texas Longhorns got in on the fun on Wednesday as well, getting 4-star South Oak Cliff offensive lineman Brian Swanson to stay in the Lone Star State. Texas overcame its Red River Rivalry counterpart, the Oklahoma Sooners, for the six-foot-five-and-a-half, 315-pound tackle by trade.

Depending on how Swanson's time in the weight room goes, plus his natural development in his senior year of high school, he could be used all over the line. This was a strong win for offensive coordinator Kyle Flood.

South Carolina lands 3-star OT from outside of Jacksonville, Florida

The South Carolina Gamecocks got themselves a recruiting win as well, drawing 3-star West Nassau County OT Clayton Lee to venture up north to Columbia. This was a fairly big loss for the UCF Knights, who were hoping to bring Lee south to the Orlando area.

Lee has seen his star rating fluctuate, but the North Florida prospect stands at six-foot-seven and 290 pounds, so the physical profile is undeniable regardless of what the number next to his name reads.
